Our goal of reviewing ProWritingAid is to help our readers become professional writers and help them make a conscious decision in buying the right grammar-checking tool.

Remember, no one will take you seriously if you are not good at what you are doing. And when it comes to professional writing, errors are not negligible; but not every writer is a grammar pro with excellent command on all the grammar rules

So without further ado, let’s start our Pro Writing Aid review and see if it is worth subscribing for or not.

An Overview of ProWritingAid Tool

It is an automatic grammar checking and editing software, similar to tools like Grammarly and Hemingway. It is not just a simple spell checker, but way better than that. It helps in identifying issues from stylistic suggestions to incorrect punctuation. Even also reminding you to avoid passive voice as much as you can, just like Grammarly does.

ProWritingAid is also useful for both – typing into the web interface, or copy-paste something that already is written. It analyzes the text, flag-up grammar, spelling, and style issues.

This premium-style editor and grammar checker are best for novelists, bloggers, business, and academic writers to eliminate errors, optimize word choice, instantly edit punctuation mistakes, and every other thing that comes under the ambient of grammar. ProWritingAid editing software is compatible with web browsers on both Mac and Windows, while also extending support for Google Docs, MS Word, and interestingly, Scrivener.

What we didn’t like: The company does not offer dedicated apps for both iOS and Android.

To write an unbiased review, we purchased the premium subscription (details of pricing plans are below) and tested the desktop and web app, here are our findings:

Ease of Use

Yes, it is very easy to use the tool. All you need to do is copy-paste the content, and it will automatically check the errors for you.

Let’s see how it works.

  • Open the Pro Writing desktop app
  • Upload a document.
  • Scanning process begins
  • An editing panel opens
  • The spell checker feature starts underlining spelling mistakes (in red), grammar mistakes (in blue), and the rest of the – style issues, incorrect sentence structure, and passive voice (in yellow.)
  • Hover on any underlined word to see the suggestion.
  • If the suggestion seems fit with the context, move forward to replace it.

What errors ProWritingAid Highlights?

Here’s the list of all the issues that ProWritingAid tool highlights in your content.

  • Clichés
  • Sticky Sentences – that slowdown the readability

  • Sentence length
  • Overall readability

Let’s count some extra-ordinary ProWritingAid features!

It helps to improve, analyze, and critique your writing; the tool provides you 20+ reports.

ProWritingAid offers Plagiarism Checker

Apart from checking for plagiarized content, it also helps you find citations for non-fiction if you’ve forgotten a source or link. This writing aid is more like a writing mentor that evaluates your writing against the best content in the respective genre.

Can I Trust on ProWritingAid for my Content?

It is a genuine concern of many readers whether the content that are uploading on ProWritingAid can get stolen or used by someone else. To address the matter of its users, ProWritingAid, claims on their website that:

“The tool doesn’t save or store any piece of content that you submit once done with analysis.”

The claim remains the same for the Free Version as well. Here are some testimonials that I have found on the website.

Is ProWritingAid ideal for fiction writers and novelists?

Unlike any other tool, ProWritingAid scans an unlimited number of words at once. A document of any size or even a book. And, for this reason, the tool is ideal for writers and novelists.

Make sure the desktop app only works while connected to the internet. So if you’re writing offline, you must reconnect to make the tool usable.

ProWritingAid Compatibility

Apart from writing reports and grammar checks, another ProWritingAid’s killer feature is its ability to integrate with other apps, including Google Docs, word processor, and Scrivener.

Let’s see how these integrations work.

ProWritingAid and Microsoft Word

  • It’s compatible with Word versions 2007, 10, 13, 16
  • Not friendly with Word for Mac (all other features are functional)

ProWritingAid and Google Chrome

  • Software is available for the browser extension
  • Provides functionality for all forms of online writing
  • It can integrate with Gmail, WordPress, Facebook, and others.

ProWritingAid and Google Docs

  • Integrates directly into Google Docs
  • Automatically checks your Gmails too.

ProWritingAid Help and Support

ProWritingAid support is super-efficient and responsive. When I asked some queries about the software, I received answers in a couple of hours via email. Like most sites, ProWritingAid also has live chat support to sort out your questions right away.

What we DON’T LIKE about ProWritingAid

ProWritingAid is one of the best grammar checkers available with a few things that we aren’t fond of. And this ProWritingAid review is incomplete without discussing them.

No iOS or Android Support

We don’t know about others, but we prefer doing a lot of writing on PDA, especially when traveling for meetings and conferences. ProWritingAid should consider mobile options. It will help authors and writers to use the tool on the go.

Snippets vs. Longer Writing

For longer writings, ProWritingAid is the best, but when it comes to snippets, it’s not the best solution. The software should focus more on grammar changes, rather than pointing out errors in snippet content. It’s not always a long-read piece to get things rolling, and sometimes we have to check the grammar of an email or social posts.

Plagiarism Checks Not Included

ProWritingAid should consider offering plagiarism checks in the free version. Not saying they should give out unlimited checks, but maybe 50-100 free checks a month. This is the only area where Grammarly is winning.

ProWritingAid software is currently for English writers only. So, if you have a German post to check for grammar or spelling mistakes, you won’t benefit from ProWritingAid.

ProWritingAid vs. Grammarly

  • ProWritingAid finds more grammar errors than Grammarly in Google docs or Word document.
  • In terms of accuracy and easy usability, ProWritingAid is way better than Grammarly.
  • ProWritingAid is found to be slightly slower to use than Grammarly.
  • ProWritingAid represents information in a detailed manner, rather than in text boxes like Grammarly.

Do We Recommend ProWritingAid Tool?

Yes, we surely do.

  • It prepares several reports to summarize your writing strengths and weaknesses
  • It offers in-depth analysis and feedback using 25 different filters.
  • It integrates with Scrivener, Word, Docs, Chrome, and a few more.
  • It is of a fraction of the price of its competitors, especially Grammarly.

So, if you’re looking for a powerful tool to become a best English writer, then check out ProWritingAid software!
